First up, let’s talk about the Christian Romero deal.
The Atalanta centre back is heading to Spurs for £42million. He had a great run last season — he’s the most aggressive centre back out of Europe’s top leagues in my opinion; in terms of interceptions, tackles and blocks. He has a decent success rate at these attributes plus he’s good aerially too. His numbers may be inflated a bit due to the fact he plays for Atalanta, who are quite aggressive but nevertheless even if you tone down his numbers a bit, I think you still get a very decent centre back which improves the current Spurs defence. His fee I think is also a bit high and I do feel that’s to do with him winning the Copa America this summer. Looking at this deal as a whole, including the fee and how much Spurs need a centre back, I’d give this deal a 6/10, only because I think the fee is a little high.
Let’s move onto Romelu Lukaku.
Last week I discussed this as a rumour and yeah as you will have followed over the weekend - Inter Milan and Chelsea have indeed agreed on a £97million fee for the Belgian. It’s estimated that Lukaku will earn around £10million per season. Chelsea have finally gotten their man and honestly I think this move makes Chelsea massive contenders for the league this year. Looking at the deal as a whole, I’d give it a 7/10, a good deal for both parties and I feel like Lukaku is quite hungry to prove himself.
Let’s end with my favourite deal of the whole transfer window — Newcastle United have agreed a fee with Arsenal for Joe Willock in the region of £25million and I am over the moon!
Willock came to us Magpies on loan last year and boy did he impress. You know when your club gets a player on loan and you have to do everything you can to make sure you don’t fall in love with them? Haha that was my constant struggle last season with Willock — the impact he made on our goal tally was immense. When our key players were injured, like Callum Wilson and Allan Saint Maximin, you know — the lads we rely on to create chances, I really worried for us but Willock was our much needed super-sub time and time again. I’m honestly so delighted at this deal. Last season he scored 8 goals, becoming the second highest goal scorer at the club and our top scoring midfielder. Not only that but he’s also Arsenal’s highest scoring midfielder in the last few years as well, despite scoring most of his goals on loan. It’s no wonder why Newcastle decided to make the move permanent. I do think this is good business from us as we know he fits our system and has excelled in it, and also the fact, he’s only 21 years old means he’s still got room to improve. In my opinion, I think that Arsenal have sold themselves short here, selling what they so desperately need. I’d give this deal an 10/10 as I think my club have done a very good job in making this deal permanent for a relatively low fee.
Before we finish up, here’s an update on the Harry Kane situation. Since the last roundup he released the following statement:
So, it’s a pretty long statement and it seems like he might actually stay at Spurs. He was due for talks today (Monday 9th August) with the new boss Nuno Esperito Santo and he might be convinced to stay as part of the project. I’m quite honestly very surprised with this — I was convinced Harry Kane was out the door but we’ll see what happens with him.
